The big-time movie premiere is one of Hollywood's most beloved rituals
Well, well, well. Guess which Hollywood nobody was "in the hizouse" at last night's big-time Tinseltown gala honoring a certain well-known movie monster's triumphant big screen return? If you guessed little old me, you'd be correct indeed! Yours truly was in attendance for the big-time Hollywood premiere, held last light at the Universal Citywalk, and let me tell you, the bash those Hollywood honchos threw down would have made old King Tut green with envy. But first things first!

I arrived at the theater with my escort, the lovely and talented Dagmar, who's always a sight for sore oculars, as you wolves out there well know. The outside of the theater was decked out with an Egyptian-type motif, with mini pyramids, palm fronds, sand and "living statues" which were actually not statues, but rather humans with paint on them. I found that out the hard way. Turns out they're not at all like those British guards who can't get mad no matter what you do. They get mad real easy, these living statues. Anyhow, we entered the theater, passing the throngs of photogs who weren't taking our pictures because we're not famous or interesting.

The inside of the theater was made up to look like a real life movie theater, with posters, bathrooms and actual working concession stands. We were directed towards our theater, one of four showing the picture. I thought I heard one of the ushers refer to it as the "loser theater," but I might have misheard him. Before we entered the theater, we stopped at the food selling counter to see what kind of edibles they had. Now hold onto your seats, dear readers, for what I'm about to tell you. The soadee pop and the popping corn . . . WERE FREE!!! That's right. They cost not a penny. I had to resist the urge to grab a dozen Cokes and take off like "the Bandit," from the popular film series starring the Bandit and also "Smokey". I merely took two containers of popped corn and two soadees and entered the theater with the lovely Dagmar. But it was all free! Free, I tells ya! Oh Hollywood, you do know how to romance a fella!

The theater itself was something indeed. Actually, it was just a theater, one of about 800 in that multiplex. But the people in the theater were something indeed. I couldn't place many of the faces, but there must have been some real bigwigs in there, because I saw several folks chatting away on "cellular" phones and they don't just give those to anybody. If you need proof that this premiere brought the stars out to shine, let me give you just one name: Michael Rooker. That's right, just one row in front of mine sat "Mr. Mallrats" himself, with his adorable kids and "gal pal." I don't know if they're married or what, but the way they were holding hands, they ought to be! As for other celebrities, well, I didn't see any around me, but I must confess I didn't look too hard. Besides, there's so many darn "young hip celebrities" around these days that I can't tell which of these young folks are famous and which are just dirty smelly heroin addicts. For all I know, the star of "Dawson Creeks" could have been sitting in my lap and I wouldn't have known the difference!

We had to wait a bit before the film began, so Dagmar and I whiled away the time by chatting about the heavyset lady a few rows down and discussing this new "Star Wars" movie everyone's buzzing about. I don't know much about it, but Dagmar's a real nut for the whole "Star Wars" deal. She's got all the figures and even owns a full stormtrooper costume, which she wears out sometimes. I'm not so crazy for the Star Wars, but I still think it's exciting to see all the frenzy. One thing we discussed is how great it is that one of the characters in the new film is "handi-capable" and apparently uses a special "flying wheelchair" that shoots laser beams. That's very good of George Lucas to appreciate the differently abled and pay respects to the wheelchair folks who give so much back to society in exchange for those great parking spots. No matter what I think of the movie, I already have two thumbs up for the wheelchair people. They've wheeled their way into our hearts!

The Mummy features a thrill every action-packed minute
Finally the lights dimmed and the picture began. And what a picture! Folks, this one has it all. Chills, spills, thrills, tills and grills. Great action, amazing special effects and good performances make this flick "Mummytastic". And when the flesh-eating bugs came on, I thought Dagmar was going to rip my arm off, she was gripping it so hard! Say, if a scary movie is all it takes to horn this gal up, maybe I ought to buy the new letterboxed edition of "Silent Night, Deadly Night" I've been hearing about. After all, I've been a good little boy this year! Oh my, love that innuendo!

Once the film was over, Dagmar and I went to the bathroom. Not together or anything. I hopped into a very long line, where I met some new friends who also had to go to the bathroom. Then it was off to the after party, to schmooze the night away with Hollywood's elite as well as a bunch of losers no one's ever heard of. Folks, I gotta tells ya, as a resident Hollywoodianite, I've seen my share of "to do's." But friends, they all pale in comparison to what I saw that night. Picture this: Large fake statues as tall as trees. "Mummy" props everywhere. Projected images from the film on several walls. Bellydancers doing the hully gully while speakers blared period music such as Will Smith's immortal, "I'm Getting Jiggy With It". Add to this table after table of exotic delicacies such as "hummus," which I must say has gotta be the spiciest number around, with exception of my good friend Ms. Rita Moreno. She's one terrific lady.

The place was packed, so Dagmar and I quickly grabbed some food while there was still some left. One thing about these Hollywood types, they love free stuff. The freer the better. If you put air up for sale on "eBay," most of the sellers would be located in Hollywood. The food was a variety of dishes like chicken, "potatoes" and other such foreign delights. They also had some great lemon cookies that I ate a few of until someone behind me said, "Hey fatty, leave some for the rest of us." I explained that I am big boned and not fat. Someone shouted back that that's what all fat people say to make themselves feel better. I told that gentleman to please do me the honor of going to hell and then I quickly shoved the rest of the cookies down my gullet and moved on. Then me and Dag took a load off at one of the tables, which were covered with tiny pyramids and crazy fake coins, which incidentally you could not use for tipping the bartenders. We watched as people had their pictures taken in a sarcophagus. Once the picture was instantly developed, it was handed back to you in a nifty cardboard frame that bore the logo of the film we were all there to celebrate. Wowee wow!

Celebrity gawkers and jaded Hollywood press alike jostled to log some face time with the electric Arnold Vosloo, still reeping kudos for his triumphant turn in 1997's Zeus and Roxanne.
Tired from making the rounds, Dag and stayed at our table and just watched the world go by. While doing so we saw stars from the "Mummy," such as John Hannah (what a card!) and Oded Fehr, a very handsome man if I do say so. We also saw the Mummy himself, Mr. Arnold Vosloo. I joked with AV that it was one heck of a "wrap" party we were at! The joke being that the Mummy is "wrapped" in stuff. Yeah. Mr. V politely pointed out that the wrap party takes place after the filming is complete and that we were in fact at the premiere party. I told him I knew and that I was making a joke. Then I explained the whole "wrap" thing to him. He just kind of nodded and said, "Oh" and then politely excused himself to get a drink. We never saw the lovely Rachael Weisz or Mr. Fraser, but sources tell me that they were there, somewhere. Who knows, maybe they got "wrapped up" in something and couldn't make it! Okay, no one likes that joke.

Towards the end of the evening things got a little tense, mainly because Dagmar was leaning rather heavily on the sauce and was starting to get on my nerves. She does like a good stiff belt, that Dag. I'd say by the end of the night she'd had enough belts to hold up all the pants in Canada. I wanted to leave, but she kept saying, "Lemme jest finish my drinkee-poo" and soon it would be forty minutes later. When people started carrying the props out and sweeping up and asking us to get out, I knew it was time to hit the road. Dagmar was pretty blitzed, but I agreed to let her drive because she promised she'd go slow.

All in all, I'd say that it was the kind of night that movie magic is made of. The movie was great and everyone really seemed to enjoy it. I don't know squat about making movies, but as I said to Ms. Rose Marie just after I threw a drink right in her face, "Now THAT'S how you do it!" The after party was a hoot and a half. The stars were out, the bellydancers were dancing and the booze was totally free. I especially liked the lengths to which security went to keep the "undesirables" out and away from us Hollywood type people. Yes indeed, there were a lot of slack jawed gawkers peeking over the fence, just trying to get a glimpse of the Tinseltown magic. Luckily for us, the security guards were authorized to use "deadly force" to keep these folks out. That means tazers, mace, cat o' nine tails and whatever else it takes to keep the average Johnny TicketBuyer away from us "insiders." If it's any consolation, I think they enjoyed standing outside, watching us drink free alcohol and eat pyramid shaped chocolates. It's a real thrill. Definitely something to tell the folks back in Wisconsin, right? Ha ha, just kidding. I love the "little" people. And by that I don't mean midgets or dwarves or midget dwarves. Though I love them too, you betcha. They're just so cute, kind of like the "Ewoks".

I let Dagmar sleep it off at my place and after vomiting into three of the six pockets on my pool table, she passed out. Good old Dag, she'll never change. Let's hope not, or there's going to be a lot of liquor distributors out of a job! Ha ha, I joke. Alcoholism is serious business and I hope she gets the help she needs. I bet if she tried, she could keep it down to one shot of booze a day. Although where she's gonna find a two gallon shot glass, I'll never know! Oh, stop it you, you're terrible. And you know what? I am.

Well folks, that's it for me. Yours truly has gotta skidaddledoodle on out of here for a little "me" time. I'm thinking a good book, a nice glass of wine and some decent hardcore pornography, if there's any to be found in this burg! Oh yeah, I gotta drop Dagmar off at home at some point. Right now she's comfortably nestled in a pool of her own vomit and I don't want to bother her. Until we meet again, remember to live, love and laugh the Hollywood way! And I'll be seeing you all at the big-time Hollywood picture show!

i have written a novel called "Immortal Flame" It is about an Arabian ghost who haunts a woman. Until I saw the first 'Mummy' movie and spotted that hunk on a black horse, I couldn't quite picture what my leading character looked like. Well! No problem after Oded came onto the screen. Finishing the book was no problem then. Would love to send a copy to him. Who knows? One day he may get to play the part of Khartoum (my ghost)? By the way, any chance he may tour Australia?

That name is adapted from the name the mummy character uses in the original Mummy from the 30's. According to the IMDb, that character's name was actually spelled "Ardath Bey", which I take to be 1930 Hollywood's best attempt to come up with an Egyptian-sounding name.

According to my baby name guide, Ardath is actually a Hebrew girl's name which means "field of flowers".

the mummy movies are my fave movies ever i am so obsessed! i know the script (yes even the egyptian they speak) off by heart, I have props statues etc, i know all about egypt (since i'm very obsessed with egypt too) I can read hieroglyphics, i have the mummy movies on dvd with 2 extra bonus disks, i have the soundtracks, posters,books i watch them every night!! i love the entire cast especially arnold vosloo, brendan, john hannah, rachel weisz and oded fehr, I am the biggest fan by far, everyone that knows me knows it (and gets quite annoyed with me reciting the film, speaking egyptian and humming the soundtrack) i even bought all the CD's of live the band that did one of the songs on the soundtrack to the mummy returns, my room is full of pictures I've drawn of the cast, scenes, etc, i'm hoping to get the original script with brendan frasers autograph on it (its expensive) and i'm studying to become an egyptologist, (not just cause of the mummy) i'm gonna live in Egypt when I'm older and I have a website on it, although I have not updated in ages and it still says I'm 14 lol, well if you want to visit it its www.shrineofisis.art shost.com :) I AM WEIRD I LOVE IT SO MUCH...*cough cough* bye bye

I love both TM, & TMR! I have both movies, soundtracks and TMR book. I personally think Evelyn was the best in both movies, and her & Rick O'Connell fit. I wish Rachel & Brenden could be in the next Mummy movie but I guess they've made up their minds. Sadly... I didn't like Imhotep or Anuk-Sa-namun, but they did fit the part. The Movie The Mummy Returns was a great film!! I thought the action scenes rocked and the story line was so captivating! Ive seen this off of ur seat thirller at least 7 times. And will continue to not only go and see this movie again and again till it comes to video BUT also watch the Mummy a MILLION TRILLION times. Because of this movie I have learned how to read ancient egyptian hierogliphics and can write in ancient egyptian. From what I hear, not only will Oded be back for the sequel, he'll have a much larger role this time out. Apparantly, his character was actually supposed to die in the first file, but director Steve Sommers decided to let him live, because Oded's such a nice guy and everyone liked him (and the character) so darn much. So fear not, as far as I know, Mr. Fehr will indeed be back for "Mummy 2". As to whether or not he shows his butt, well, you'll just have to find that out for yourself. So long kids.

It's me, Noah Belson. How's it going. I just wanted to let you guys know that as far as I know, Oded will indeed be back for "Mummy 2" and from what I hear, he'll be doing more than just following Brendan Frasier around this time. A while ago I heard that Oded will be featured in part 2 as a major player, especially since the reaction to his work in part 1 was so strong. In fact if you watch the director's track on the DVD, Steve Sommers talks about how he was originally going to kill Ardeth Bay off, but he just couldn't bring himself to do it, because Oded was such a nice, handsome guy. That being the case, I think you can all rest assured that Oded will be back for more Mummerific fun. I can't say whether he's going to take off his shirt or do a nude table dance with the Mummy or anything like that. Guess you'll just have to buy a ticket. Wow, you ladies really love Oded, don'cha? You know, I totally look just like him and stuff. Yeah, we're like totally twins. Um, you gals should call me up and stuff, 'cause Oded and I are dead ringers. Except for our heads, that is. Well i have NEVER EVER lost my head over an actor, but now that it has happened with this guy, it sure does say a lot for me at least. Personally for me i have never liked blonde men but no other dark man has ever been as goodlooking, sexy and riveting as this dark guy called ODED FEHR. I would just like to write and say that I've been reading the messages on this site and I am so glad that other people love Oded aswell. I love him so much and I really miss being able to see him in the Mummy. I missed Killer Net when it was on and so would love someone to send me an E-mail telling me if there is going to be a repeat.
